“I stayed at home with my family to observe Sunday service. I had a good time with my family, as we sang songs and offered prayers for peace for our community and the nation,” he said.

Mrs Grace Dauda of Garaje said other neighbours joined them while they sang from their house’s sitting room.

“The situation brought families and friends together to offer prayers for lasting peace in Kafanchan,” she said.

Dauda however urged the local government authorities to relax the curfew so as to ease the hardship being faced by the city’s residents, who are largely Christians.

Mr Stephen Anche, a cleric, said that God heard and answered prayers irrespective of where and when they were offered.

“We urged Christians to offer prayers in their homes while the curfew lasts, as God hears the prayers of believers anytime and anywhere,’’ he said.(NAN)

Arik Flight Makes Emergency Landing As Nigerian Woman Gives Birth on Plane

Written By Unknown on Tuesday 17 September 2013 | 00:49

An Arik Air flight with over 100 passengers en route to London Sunday was forced to make an emergency landing in Palmas, Spain, as a woman went into labour and gave birth while the aircraft was airborne. The pilot was said to have requested the emergency landing on the advice of two doctors who were on board the aircraft and had helped the mother deliver the baby.

When the passenger went into labour, the cabin crew asked that doctors on board the flight to identify themselves. Following the announcement, two of the passengers came forward, saying they were doctors and assisted in the delivery of the baby.

Normally, a source disclosed that in the few instances where women have given birth on board, the aircraft would continue its flight to its final destination. However, the Arik flight was forced to make an emergency landing following the advice of the doctors that the woman was bleeding excessively - she was said to have experienced excessive hemorrhaging, necessitating the emergency landing.
At the time of this report, both mother and child were said to have been stable but were left behind in Palmas for monitoring by medical personnel, while the flight continued on its journey to London.
The airline was trying to ascertain if the woman had presented a false medical report from her doctor on the true duration of her pregnancy or she had gone into premature labour while on board the flight.
Women with full term pregnancies are not allowed to travel by air, according to International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regulations. As such, intending pregnant passengers are required to present medical reports certifying that they are less than 32 weeks pregnant before they are allowed to fly.
A source said the airline was carrying out a full-scale investigation to ascertain the genuineness of themedical report presented by the woman.
Arik Air’s management said yesterday that if it is discovered that the woman was given a false report to enable her fly, it would file a special complaint against the doctor who had issued the medical report to the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) for endangering her life and that of the baby, as well that of other passengers on board the flight.

ASUU strike: 7 days fasting decleared by Baraje led PDP

WORRIED by the prolonged strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, the Abubakar Kawu Baraje-led new Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP, has commenced a seven-day fasting and prayer starting from today.

To make it very effective, the new PDP  has requested all  its members worldwide to embark on the exercise, adding that the spiritual intervention was as a result of the concern of the Baraje-led PDP for the plight of parents and university students due to the continued closure of public universities following the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

It added that the move was designed to protest what it described as the Federal Government’s failure to keep the agreement it signed with the union in 2009.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Baraje has set up a four-man Committee with  Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State as Chairman to advise the party on the best way to get the Federal Government’s negotiating committee and the leadership of ASUU to reach an agreement on the issues at stake and thus end this three-month-old strike.

Other members of the committee are Governor  Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State, Chinwo Ike, President of UNIPORT Alumni, and Mr. Timi Frank, the nPDP National Youth Leader.

The group said: “We sincerely solicit the patience of Nigerians while appealing to the Federal Government and the leadership of ASUU to end this imbroglio so that our children may go back to school instead of engaging in acts inimical to their future.

“The need for this has become urgent as reports reaching us indicate that many of these students have out of frustration and boredom turned to prostitution, armed robbery and other vices due to the prolonged strike.

On its secretariat that was sealed by the police, Eze said: “To the glory of God, contrary to the prayers of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur’s faction of PDP, a Federal High Court in Abuja onSeptember 13, 2013, ruled that the Baraje faction of PDP should be allowed to operate without any further harassment or inhibition as it is not breaking any known law. Justice E.S. Chukwu in his ruling held that there was no evidence before the court to show any tardiness on the part of Baraje’s faction as claimed by the Tukur-led faction, which requested it to stop the Baraje-led PDP from operating.”

She, however, said she was lured to the hotel and molested from 9 pm to the next morning and dumped in the hotel room, where she cried until hotel attendants rescued her.Speaking at the Magistrate Court Abagana after a court session, Ijeoma said she prayed all night reminding the pastor of the consequence of his act, but his pleas fell on deaf ears.

The victim came to the court aided as a result of the injuries she sustained during the alleged act.According to her,
"It started on a Tuesday when I went to the church for prayers. I have not been hearing clearly with my ears for sometime, so I went to the pastor for prayers and when I told him my problem, he said I should stay behind that he will pray for me after everyone has gone"."After the session that day, he called me to the backyard and started praying for me. He poured anointing oil into my ear and mouth. He now ordered me to remove my dress and he poured some on my tummy and started massaging it. After sometime, he started putting his hand inside (honeypot), to which I objected. He said he will leave me if I do not want him to pray for me".

Ijeoma narrated that as usual the pastor had asked her to stay behind, that he will conduct a special prayer for her and her hearing will be okay again.

"After the service, only he and his friend were left, he said he will take me to the house and pray for me, but when I objected and told him that my father will kill me, he said I should not mind that nothing will happen to me.
"He took me to a hotel, ran upstairs and came back and ordered me and his friend to come with him. He took us up and put his friend in another room and took me to a separate room. He ordered food for me and hot drink, to which I objected. He said the drink was part of the deliverance that I had to drink it. He forced it down my throat and when I started to feel sleepy he undressed me and inserted his 'something' into me; then he started pushing it in and pushing out.
"Even when blood was gushing out of me, he continued to push the 'thing' inside. I tried shouting but he covered my mouth, when I could not help myself, I started praying and telling him of the implication of what he was doing to me before God but he kept on".

She said she was only freed the next morning when she regained consciousness and started banging the door of the hotel room asking for assistance.

Though Ijeoma said she complained to her mum when she got back after the first incident, her mum, Mrs Ifeoma who also spoke to DailyPost said she confronted the pastor the next day and he denied putting his hand under the girls pant, claiming he was only praying for her; a defense which led the gullible woman to accept that the pastor meant well.

She stated that the truth, however, dawned on her on the following Tuesday when her daughter went to the same church and failed to return home.

"I thought she had been kidnapped, in fact I believe this is also kidnap", she told our reporter.

A copy of medical report issued to her by the Chief Medical Officer of Enugu Ukwu General Hospital, Dr J.O Akuka which her parents showed to our reporter revealed that she sustained bruises, and a torn hymen.

This showed that there was a penetration in her honeypot.Ijeoma's mother pleaded with the relevant authorities to help her find justice for her innocent daughter who was violated by a man she trusted to be a Man of God, as the matter is currently before a Magistrate court in Abagana.

He told a source close to whisperNaija.com that the pastor had allegedly offered him N500, 000 to keep sealed lips, an offer he rejected, but expressed fears that the pastor may use the money to subvert justice.

The pastor, Rev Otisi, who is the senior pastor of a branch of Rhema Church in Abagana refused to make comments when he was approached. His counsel, Barr CC Achi, however, said that the matter was only being engineered by unseen hands from behind as his client occupied a land that is in dispute.

"The issue here is land dispute, but these people are being used by someone who is in tussle over a piece of land with our client. On a separate allegation of being previously charged with the rape of 8-year-old in his church, the lawyer said it was not true, adding that it was meant to paint his client in bad light.

HOW A WOMAN MAKES 50,000 FROM MASSAGING WITH HER BREAST

A woman is marketing her services in the ‘breast’ way possible — by giving massages with her size 48NN breasts. And, yes, bra sizes do go that large. Kristy Love, 34, a certified massage therapist in Atlanta, advertises herself on her website as “THE premiere CMT BBW body rub specialist taking Atlanta AND the world to an all new level of BBW adult entertainment.”

For those of you who need some explaining, “CMT” is a certified massage therapist. A “BBW” is a big, beautiful woman. Love’s clients can get both normal and “sensual” massages, but her stack-in-trade is something called the “happy man works” where she rubs her gigantic bosoms over various parts of her client’s body for $300 an hour.

Love claims on her website that the mammary massage is supposed to “keep you focused in the present and give you the opportunity to experience all aspects of your nature not just a part of your persona.” Love didn’t intend to put her "oranges" front and center when she started out in her masseuse career, but her attempts at finding a regular job were a bust.

20% of Kogi teachers speak bad English, can’t write own names

Written By Unknown on Thursday 12 September 2013 | 01:34

Lokoja -  Mr Ndamadu Ali, the Kogi Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs said on Wednesday that more than  20 per cent of public primary school teachers in the state speak bad English.

Ali made the disclosure while submitting the report of the Committee on biometric data and Certificate verification of the teaching and non-teaching staff to Gov. Idris Wada in Lokoja.

The commissioner, who also heads the committee, said the teachers could not also spell or write their names correctly.

He said the committee had established the actual number of teachers in the state to be 24, 335 and not 27, 639 as claimed by State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs).

On the teachers’ salaries, the committee chairman said the claim by the SUBEB and local education authorities as at May ending was wrong.

He said that, what government should be paying as the monthly salary of teachers’ should be N1.196 billion, and not N1. 320billion as claimed by SUBEB and LGEAs.

He said that, the committee discovered 3, 303 ghost workers that had been receiving N189 million as salaries every month for years.

“For six weeks that the committee sat, these people could not be found, and there was no excuse permit or medical report, so, we tagged them ghost workers,” Ali said.

He said the committee also discovered that some retired teachers in the state were still collecting salaries from government years after they had retired.

The committee chairman said they had compiled the names of the affected retirees and the amount collected individually, so that, it could be deducted from their gratuities.

He said the committee also observed that there were indiscriminate recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff by both SUBEB and local school authorities.

While calling for the total overhaul of the primary education sub-sector, Ali said the responsibility to recruit, promote and discipline teachers should be taken away from SUBEB and the local education authorities.

Doing this, he said would stem corruption and reduce the problem of ghost workers among other abuses in the system.

The committee suggested the training and re-training of teachers on regular basis to enhance their competence and capacities.

Ali thanked the leadership of the state chapter of the NUT for their understanding and cooperation throughout the sitting.

In his response, Gov. Wada said government would immediately set up a committee to implement the report.

He said that government would not delay the implementation so that schools that had been under lock and keys in the past five months could be re-opened.

He said that government was initially opposed to the implementation of the minimum wage, but the report would enhance the capacity of the government to pay the new wage.

The committee was inaugurated in May at the height of agitation for the payment of minimum wage by teachers in public primary schools. (NAN)

Andy Uba, Tony Nwoye return to court today for PDP ticket

HEARING in the suit over who gets the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ticket between Tony Nwoye and Andy Uba for the November 16, 2013 governorship election in Anambra State continues today at the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The Ejike Oguebego’s faction of the PDP in Anambra State, which elected Chief Andy Uba as the party’s candidate is in court to challenge the decision of the National Working Committee, NWC, to recognise Ken Emeakayi’s faction which produced Mr. Tony Nwoye as the flagbearer.

While Oguebego is the first plaintiff, Andy Uba is the second.

The presiding judge, Justice H.A. Nganjiwa, while adjourning sitting yesterday, affirmed that today’s hearing would settle on accelerated hearing towards dispensing with the motion on notice and interlocutory injunctions emanating from the case before the originating summon and substantive suit would be considered.

At yesterday’s hearing, Jude Nnodum, counsel to Ejike Oguebego, factional chairman of the Anambra PDP and Andy Uba, plaintiffs in the case, apologised to the judge and the defense team asking for extended time to update and file the necessary documents to reflect the co-joining of the interested party.

On Justice Nganjiwa’s decision to first dispense with the motion on notice and interlocutory objections today, B.C. Igwilo, who held brief for U.I Igweneme, counsel to 3rd and 4th defendants in tune with Mensha N. Kalu, counsel to 1st defendant, contended that it would be improper in view of existing question marks over the jurisdiction of the court.

Justice Nganjiwa, while upholding his decision said: “In view of Order 29 Rule 1, it is not out of place to do away with the interlocutory objections and motion on notice first. After that we can determine and rule on the question of whether the court has jurisdiction or not.”

In a chat with Vanguard after yesterday’s hearing, plaintiffs’ counsel declined opening up on the nature and content of the injunctions to be determined.

“We all have to come tomorrow and hear the plaintiffs out and response from the other side. The matter is going on in court now. If we begin to talk outside of the court, we would be preempting the proceedings. Let’s just wait till tomorrow,” he explained.

A 27 year old Boy Raped a 60 year Old Woman

Written By Unknown on Tuesday 10 September 2013 | 01:05

The Ado-Ekiti Magistrate Court in Ekiti State, yesterday, remanded one Akintunde Omotehinde, 27, in prison custody for allegedly raping his 60-year-old mother.

Prosecutor Ebenezer Ewuola told the court that the accused committed the offence on August 23, in Ajebamidele Area of Ado-Ekiti.

He claimed that the accused ‘forcefully and unlawfully’ had carnal knowledge of his mother, which led to her being hospitalised.

He added that on the same date, the accused assaulted and inflicted injuries on one, Isiaka Ojo, who attempted to separate him from his mother during the act.

He said the offence contravened Section 358 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor said he had sent his case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for legal advice.

The accused plea was not taken.

The magistrate, Mrs Patricia Ajibade, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody, pending the DPP’s legal advice and adjourned the case till October 16.

what is wrong in making stowaway boy hero?

National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers, NAAPE, has criticised the award of scholarship to stowaway teenager, Daniel Oikhena, by the Governor Rauf Aregbesola Foundation.

The association contended , yesterday, that it was wrong to make hero out of the boy.

It will be recalled that on Saturday, August 24, 2013, the teenager successfully breached the security of the Benin Airport, operated by Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, and managed to stowaway at the wheel well of an Arik aircraft on a flight from Benin to Lagos.
The boy was apprehended when he came out of the wheel well on landing in Lagos.

According to Bunmi Gindeh, Public Relations Officer, NAAPE, the association “seriously frowns at the effort by some people to make a hero out of the stowaway boy by publicly giving reward to a boy that at best fell far short of acceptable behaviour.

“While NAAPE does not want to stand in the way of anyone’s fortune, we consider that in this particular case, making such gesture public gives an erroneous impression which makes it a dis-service.

“We fear that such public gesture, even in the name of charity, will only encourage other kids, and even adults, to embark on similar misadventure.”

The association said it was also concerned that both FAAN and Arik had been  publicly trading blames over the incident, when the two corporate bodies were both aware of their responsibilities to assist in the process of identification and rectification of the problem, and in a civilised manner.

Ebonyi govt stops payment of CONHESS to corps members

ABAKALIKI—CONTRARY to insinuations in some quarters that the Ministry of Agriculture has stopped the payment of Consolidated Health Salary Structure, CONHESS, to National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members posted to the Ministry because it wanted monetary inducements from them, the state government last weekend declared that the stoppage was done because of lack of approval.

Addressing newsmen in Abakaliki, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Steve Orogwu, said it was wrong for veterinary corps members posted to the Ministry of Agriculture to allege that they were being victimised and marginalised over the issue of non payment of CONHESS, adding that there was no state in the federation where CONHESS was being paid to corps members.

He said: “It is wrong for the vertinary corps doctors to alleged that I stopped their salaries based on CONHESS because I demanded a percentage of the money or so; first and foremost I never had any direct contact with them as to make any demand from them and the issue of CONHESS payment to doctors were never formally approved by Ebonyi State Government.

“But what I did was to give provisional approval until the state government comes up with a policy direction on that; but as at now, the state government policy now stands at the uniform payment of N5000 as salaries to corps members as their stipends for the month except in the Ministry of Health where some medical doctors are being paid something above N5000.”

China's industrial output growth adds to recovery hopes

China's industrial production rose by more than expected in August, the latest sign that the world's second-largest economy may be on the mend
Factory output climbed by 10.4% from a year earlier. Most analysts had forecast a figure closer to 9.9%.

Other data released on Tuesday showed a growth in retail sales and fixed asset investment during the month.

China has been trying to boost its economy after its growth rate slowed for two quarters in a row.

"The better-than-expected figures showed the recovering momentum of China's economy is stronger than market expectations," said Li Huiyong, an economist at Shenyin & Wanguo Securities in Shanghai.

"The three key drivers of China's economy, including exports, investment and consumption, have shown [an] obvious rebounding trend in August."

Syria's Assad says US has no proof of chemical weapons use

Written By Unknown on Sunday 8 September 2013 | 23:27

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has told a US broadcaster there is "no evidence" that his government has used chemical weapons.

In the interview with PBS, to be aired on Monday, he also suggested his allies would retaliate if the West attacked.

US Secretary of State John Kerry has been lobbying hard for military action against Mr Assad during talks with EU and Arab foreign ministers in Europe.

Congress is due to debate whether to authorise intervention in Syria.

Lawmakers will return from their summer recess on Monday to start discussing President Barack Obama's resolution to launch a "limited, narrow" strike.

A Senate vote on the issue is expected as early as Wednesday, although the timetable for Mr Obama's request is less certain in the House, where the measure faces an even rockier time.

The US accuses Mr Assad's forces of killing 1,429 people in a sarin gas attack on 21 August on the outskirts of the capital, Damascus.

Mr Assad's government blames the attack on rebels fighting to overthrow him in the country's two-and-a-half-year civil war, which has claimed some 100,000 lives, according to UN estimates.
