Police nab 3 cross-border robbery suspects in Yobe

Three sub-Sahara robbery suspects have been arrested by the Yobe State Police command at the Nigeria/Niger border.

The state Police Commissioner, Mallam Sanusi Rufai, who made this known at Damaturu, the state capital, said the suspects were arrested between Karasuwa and Jaji-maji in the state.



Rufai who spoke at a news conference, Wednesday, said the suspects were “sub-Sahara robbers who specialised in terrorising the neighbouring villages in Yobe using camels.

“They were apprehended by local hunters after a fierce battle between them and the robbers where  one AK-47 riffle was recovered along with the three camels they stole from the villagers.”

He, however, stressed that the identities of the suspects were yet to be established even as investigations were still going on.

President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday 10th March 2014, laid the foundation stone for the construction of second Niger Bridge linking Asaba in Delta State with Onitsha in Anambra State after many years of waiting and agitation by the people of South East.

The project is to be constructed by Julius Berger PLC.
